Position Summary
The Executive Director provides day-to-day leadership for Virginia City Main Street, implementing the Main Street America Four Point Approach and carrying out the objectives of the Memorandum of Understanding between Virginia City Main Street and Storey County. The position supports the Board of Directors, coordinates volunteers and committees, manages programs and grants, builds partnerships, promotes historic preservation and economic vitality, and ensures accountable and transparent operations.
Organization and Governance
- Implement Board policies, strategic priorities, and the annual work plan.
- Support Board meetings, committee coordination, agendas, minutes, and organizational records.
- Maintain nonprofit compliance, Main Street America reporting, and organizational documentation.
- Develop recommendations that support continuous organizational improvement.
Economic Vitality
- Conduct regular in-person outreach with businesses within the designated Main Street corridor.
- Support business retention, expansion, recruitment, and corridor activation.
- Coordinate with the Storey County Chamber of Commerce and regional partners.
- Identify emerging business needs and opportunities and communicate them to the Board.
Design and Historic Preservation
- Coordinate façade improvement and corridor enhancement initiatives.
- Coordinate with the Comstock Historic District Commission and SHPO, as applicable.
- Maintain documentation of completed preservation projects and corridor inventories.
Promotion and Community Engagement
- Coordinate community events, volunteer engagement, marketing, and public communications.
- Develop partnerships with businesses, property owners, sponsors, donors, public agencies, and community organizations.
- Promote broad public participation and collaboration.
Financial Management and Resource Development
- Administer Board-approved budgets and maintain financial documentation.
- Support grant research, applications, administration, reimbursement requests, and reporting.
- Assist in developing diversified revenue through grants, sponsorships, donations, fundraising, and events.
- Coordinate with the Treasurer and Board to support sound financial stewardship.
County Coordination and Reporting
- Serve as the primary liaison with Storey County.
- Prepare quarterly reports and reimbursement documentation required under the MOU.
- Track time allocation and organizational performance.
- Develop annual work plans aligned with Board priorities and the MOU.
Required Qualifications
• Experience in nonprofit management, community development, economic development, downtown revitalization, public administration, or a related field.
• Strong organizational, communication, facilitation, and project management skills.
• Ability to work independently while remaining accountable to the Board.
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with Main Street America programs.
• Historic preservation or downtown revitalization experience.
• Grant management and reporting experience.
• Knowledge of Nevada nonprofit, municipal, or community development environments.
Work Structure and Expectations
This position averages approximately 20 hours per week. Work schedules vary according to operational needs. Evening meetings, weekend events, and occasional travel are expected. Hours worked shall be accurately recorded and compensated in accordance with applicable federal and Nevada law.
Annual Performance Evaluation
The Executive Director will be evaluated annually by the Board of Directors using the approved annual work plan. Performance measures may be adjusted each year to align with Board priorities, the Memorandum of Understanding, grant commitments, and organizational goals.

Physical Requirements
Requires walking throughout the historic district, standing during meetings and events, lifting and carrying event materials of approximately 30 pounds, prolonged computer use, and operation of a motor vehicle.

The Executive Director shall maintain the confidentiality of sensitive organizational information, comply with adopted conflict-of-interest and ethics policies, safeguard organizational assets, and conduct all activities in a professional and impartial manner.
